Leadership for Achieving Tobacco Control in Bangladesh

Almost 1 out of every 3 adult people are consuming tobacco products in Bangladesh.

Engaging multi-sectoral partners, particularly National Tobacco-Control Cell (NTCC), youth anti-tobacco club, ministry of health and family welfare, and Campaign for Tobacco Free Kids (CTFK), we aspire to advocate for tobacco-free Bangladesh by 2040 as targeted by GoB. In this tobacco-control project, we have key focused strategic objectives and activities, engaging the Members of Parliament (MPs), key ministries, senior government officials, partners, CSOs/NGOs, the private sector, and the media for achieving the goal. The project is stressed to engage Member of Parliament (MPs), to use their parliamentary oversight to influence the ministries, Parliamentary Standing Committees, Prime Minister’s Offices, Cabinet Division, Finance Ministries, NBR, and other stakeholders to accelerate the tobacco-control law amendment process as set by WHO FCTC and formulate a comprehensive tobacco tax policy in Bangladesh. Therefore, this project is contributing to achieving reducing tobacco usages and preventing NCD with the national goals, the Universal Health Coverage (UHC), and the SDGs in Bangladesh by 2030.
